New product development continues at a pace within PLP across all markets served, in terms of enhancements to popular products, investments in type testing against investigative standards and adding new ranges to the core portfolio.

Within the bus sector, the cassette emergency exit door has been configured to accomodate safety features such as 5kph interlocks and tilt switches.  Furthermore, depending upon the profile of the vehicle bodyside, concealed hinges can be engineered thus reducing external protrusions and providing a smooth external appearance.

The PLP cab assault door combinations have been enhanced to provide a powered option thus improving driver ergonomics relative to the operation of opening and closing the sliding pane, operable via a switch located on the drivers console.

Within the coach panel product design, the paralift system has been developed to interface with a powered mechanism thus further complementing the existing range of manual paralift and top hinged designs.

Designed originally for the USA market, the side egress window is a cassette concept typically located along the bodyside of the bus, opened via interior operating handles, thus the vent is released (rotates) to the exterior of the vehicle providing emergency egress for passengers.

The UK railway industry has been investigating how best to protect passengers in the event of roll over crash conditions and significantly, PLP has been at the forefront of developments by creating impact rigs to perform a multitude of tests so as to understand the performance characteristics of existing windows already installed to carriages and how to enhance such to improve protection.  Please refer to the product page applicable to railway bodyside windows for further information.
